A study of the nocturnal flows generated in the north side of the Pyrenees

چکیده
During night-time, with clear-skies and weak-synoptic pressure gradients, the organization of the flow at lower levels is mainly controlled by the local effects, such as terrain or surface heterogeneities. This is the case of the thermal differences between the air adjacent to the slopes and over the nearby plains that generate downslope winds. The foothills of the north Pyrenees are selected to study the temporal and spatial scales of the downslope winds through a high-resolution mesoscale simulation. From the analysis of the model outputs and the observations, it is found that the organization of the flow at lower levels can be separated in three well-defined regions. At the mountain slopes, downslope winds appear close to the surface whereas downvalley winds form later, after the accumulation of air in the bottom of the valleys due to the downslope winds. At the foothills, the turning of the wind (from upslope to downslope) starts before sunset but it depends on the distance to the Pyrenees, the closer the earlier. Finally, at the Garonne river plain down-river winds are formed at the end of the night, after the accumulation of the downslope winds from the Pyrenees and the Massif Central. Furthermore, the physical mechanisms that take place while the downslope winds travel from the mountain to the plain regions are analysed. ∗Corresponding author: Maria A. Jiménez. Across-channel distribution of the mean and tidal flows in the Khuran Channel, Persian Gulf, Iran
The Khuran Channel, Southern Iran (26°45’N), is a topographically complex channel which is open at both ends. Owning to its particular geometry, this narrow channel is subjected to strong tidal currents.Across-channel distribution of the mean and tidal flows were obtained over a semidiurnal tidal cycle in the Khuran Channel where the highest tidal velocity in the third day of the seco...
متن کاملStudy of Parameters Affecting Separation Bubble Size in High Speed Flows using k-ω Turbulence Model
Shock waves generated at different parts of vehicle interact with the boundary layer over the surface at high Mach flows. The adverse pressure gradient across strong shock wave causes the flow to separate and peak loads are generated at separation and reattachment points. The size of separation bubble in the shock boundary layer interaction flows depends on various parameters. Reynolds-averaged...

Background & Objectives: Nocturnal enuresis, the involuntary passing of urine during sleep after the age at which bladder control would normally be anticipated, is a widespread and potentially disabling disorder of children. Treatment of enuresis includes non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic procedures. Imipramine, anticholinergics, and desmopressin are appropriate drugs for treatment. Desmopres...
متن کاملIncompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations on free surface flows
The water wave generation by wave paddle and a freely falling rigid body are examined by using an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH). In the current ISPH method, the pressure was evaluated by solving pressure Poisson equation using a semi-implicit algorithm based on the projection scheme and the source term of pressure Poisson equation contains both of divergence free ve...
متن کاملPhysico-chemical chaterctrestics of the Ararat basaltic lavas from the North Gerik (NW Azerbaijan) area, based on mineral chemistry of clinopyroxene: implications for magma evolution in post collision origin
1-Introduction North western Iran are neighboring of the largest Turkey volcanic centers (e.g. Ararat, Nemrut, Tendürek and Süphan volcanoes), within the Turkish-Iranian orogenic plateau. Quaternary basaltic lavas from NW Azerbaijan are related to the on-going Arabia-Eurasia collision zone, and inherited by subduction of the Neo-Tethyan Ocean at a Late Eocene age (~ 35 Ma). The Quaternary lava...
